What is Dual Enrollment (formerly Advanced Education)

Interested in taking college classes while in high school? Dual Enrollment provides high school students with educational enrichment opportunities at the community college level.  Current high school students interested in taking classes at one of the Los Rios Community Colleges (SCC, CRC ARC, or FLC) can enroll in college courses each semester (summer, fall and spring).

🎓 Los Rios Dual Enrollment – Step-by-Step Guide

1️⃣ Check Eligibility

  • Students must have started 9th grade or be at least 14 years old by the first day of classes

  • Students should be prepared for college-level coursework

  • Parent/guardian consent is required

2️⃣ Apply to a Los Rios College

  • Go to OpenCCC and complete the online application

  • Choose one Los Rios college:

  • American River College

  • Cosumnes River College

  • Folsom Lake College

  • Sacramento City College

  • Select the option indicating you are enrolling in both high school and college

  • You will receive your Los Rios Student ID (W-number)

3️⃣ Set Up Your Student Accounts

  • Activate your eServices account and Los Rios student email

  • Use your W-number to access eServices, Canvas, and email

4️⃣ Meet With Your High School Counselor

  • Discuss which college courses you plan to take

  • Make sure courses align with your high school graduation plan

5️⃣ Submit the Special Admit Form

  • Complete the Los Rios Special Admit (Dual Enrollment) Form

  • Provide parent/guardian and high school official contact information

  • Your counselor will receive the form for approval

6️⃣ Wait for Processing & Check Email

  • Form approval may take several business days

  • Watch your Los Rios email for enrollment instructions

  • Dual Enrollment students receive priority registration

7️⃣ Enroll in Classes

  • Log into eServices when your registration appointment opens

  • Enroll only in approved courses

8️⃣ Pay Fees (If Applicable)

  • Tuition and Universal Pass fees are waived

  • Students may still be responsible for optional or additional fees, such as the student representation fee (can be opted out)

Make sure to follow the deadlines for Summer and Fall 2026.

Warning: Earning a non passing grade or W on your classes can affect your future financial aid.

What is the eligibility criteria?

The student has started the 9th grade or will be at least 14 years old by the first day of instruction.

The course the student wants to take is not available at their high school (dual-enrollment classes do not count toward high school graduation requirements).

The student has parental consent to be admitted and enrolled at the college.

There is a certain amount credits a high school student is allowed to enroll in.
